The chinese around the world is celebrating Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar New Year. It is one of the busiest autogate shopping times of the year.
What We Do Before Chinese New Year?
Things to do and buy before Chinese New Year include new clothes, haircut, house clean up, and repair or replace faulty home appliances
What is Chinese New Year?
Chinese New Year is an approximately 15-day holiday consisting of family meals, visiting friends, giving ang pao and vacations. This year’s Chinese New Year run from the night of 24th January to 8th February.
Reunion Dinner – We normally have reunion dinner on the new year eve. All family members gather together to eat steamboat. We use chicken bones and sweet corn to cook the soup. A traditional steamboat consists of fish, dumplings, prawns, squids, fish balls and anything you like to eat.

New Year’s Day – We visit relatives and give ang pao to those unmarried relatives. We also visit temples for prayers.
Chap Goh Mei – Today is the final day of Chinese New Year. Chap Goh Mei is a hokkien term that means the 15th night of Chinese New Year. In Mandarin, we call Yuan Xian Jie (元宵节).
For those single ladies who will go to the rivers or lakes to thrown oranges into the water. The boys in boats are required to scoop up the oranges.

In some places, people will send glowing lanterns into the sky.
